Tiny aubergine

Three sisters planting

I think we got out plot a bit late in the season but we are all pleased with the fruits of our labours so far. Here's a shot of funner beans growing up a sweetcorn plant! The sweetcorns were very small but I have dried the kernals out to make popcorn!

Allotment envy!

Allotment envy!

I'd love to say this is our allotment but sadly we still have a patch of dirt and weeds a bit further up. We are the proud mothers of two weirdly shaped but appetising courgettes, and there are aubergines, herbs, squashes and sunflowers to come soon!

Sow it begins...

Sow it begins...

This is the before picture, we have planted lots and the sun and the rain have done their bit. There are lots of seedlings and I'm afraid weedlings too but it all looks the same at the moment. Our neighbours have been very supportive and a few have naturally tried to dampen our spirits letting us know that between the birds, the mice and the weather our seedlings don't stand a chance, thanks!

I think it will take a least a year to get in the swing but things are happening and we have got into a good routine between us. I definitely have allotment envy....

hopefully the path might mean that the peas can grow without being squashed by small, well meaning, wellies...Amazingly it rained just after the big plant out so watch this space for weedwatch and small plant diary!

Wet patch!

Lynda sent me this, the satisfaction of watering the tiny pea plants that we are nurturing. The big planting day is coming but for now the patch is mapped out and waiting, full of earthy promise.

The water pumps are amazing, we walked up to water the peas after tea. These heady summer evenings are sublime, peas watered we headed home to wash our muddy toes.

It's perpetual spinach, according to my mum and the power of iphones, not sure we'll be fighting over it though!

Nasturtiums

Writing the plant labels. Due to our combined control freakishness I'm sure all plant labels will follow a strict naming convention, but this one for 'nastrums' slipped through!

All hands on deck

The small people took digging holes very seriously, there will be some haphazard sunflowers and peas popping up all over the place! Between us there are 7 small people!

Day one...

After months and months of waiting, a shared allotment has come up! We are very excited and the fine mist of June rain didn't dampen our spirits. We planted some peas, mapped a few things out, found a beetroot and got slightly rained on, it was bliss!
